By Daniel Hogan

The cafe scene in Christchurch changed significantly in the year 2011. What at one time existed as a defined city centre with restaurants, eateries and retailers, now Christchurch has seen its cafes dispersed across the urban centre drawing residents and visitors to almost all areas within the city. This is perfect for the suburbanisation of Christchurch quite a few regions had been without established areas of local independently owned stores and cafes. Visitors and locals continue to be spoiled for choice when it comes to deciding the best place to eat.

Not only are eateries emerging on the borders of the city, cafes at the center of Christchurch are making a return. With the opening of the city mall (that is the place to find three great cafes) and also the re-opening of C1, a Christchurch caf institution, the situation is looking good for the central city cafe scene.

The folks of Christchurch are keen about cafes along with their coffee. The fact is we have seen a bit of a coffee revolution over the last number of years. As a consequence of this elevated popularity, the amount of cafes and eateries have considerably increased and coffee consumers are becoming fairly particular with where they're going to obtain their hot beverage of choice. There are a large number of varieties of coffees to choose from in the local cafes. What's more, shoppers also have a choice of cup sizes, type of milk and number of espresso shots. Christchurch baristas often take the New Zealand top barista award which is handed out each year, there are a number of schools where barista amateurs can go to discover how to make the best espresso.

With regards to what you should expect at a Christchurch cafe well it can be a mixed bag. There are a number of cafes within the city all with their own character and style. What is excellent about the caf scene is you will almost certainly discover a cafe you like. At the same time, cafes are popping up throughout the city almost weekly.

If you're searching for a unique cafe Christchurch is the perfect city. Almost all cafes in Christchurch have re-opened in their original area or have opened up in a short-term pop-up position or have moved to an entirely new site. It's also good to hear that many guidebooks continue to encourage tourists to visit Christchurch whilst in New Zealand, particularly due to the variety of stores and cafes that are open.

The foodstuff in cafes in Christchurch is generally viewed in glass units and you will often have a wonderful choice of food from which to choose (including a blackboard menu that features the daily specials). A number of cafes choose to roast their very own beans, that way they have got complete control over the final product (your cup of coffee).
