If you happen to be in the market for a good vegetable slicer, I am fairly certain that you have noticed there seem to be as many shapes, sizes, colors, and varieties, of these neat gadgets as there are days in the month.
The feature that runs the slicer also has 3 other parts that allow you to slice thinner slices and grate things like cheese. I tried the grater function out on some vegetables and it worked well. These are truly versatile tools and a must have for the kitchen of any budding gourmet. When looking for a vegetable-slicer, I highly encourage you to seek those with safety features in place to prevent the chopping of your fingers or fingernails along with your fruits and veggies.
Simplicity - Once assembled it turns slicing vegetables into a process so simple even a small child could do it.
While taking a wrong turn with the slicer will quickly bring you back to reality it really isn't all that appetizing in the long run. However, it does reduce slicing vegetables down to stick them in 1 end and have a bowl to catch them on the other end.
Aesthetics- If you want your vegetables to be perfectly sliced then this is not going to work for you. The protection it provides is well worth the cost.
From that day I kept thinking about going on the internet to learn how they made it and turns out it is super easy not to mention really cheap. The vegetable spiral slicer to my surprise was reasonably priced compared to what I thought it was going to cost, if you buy it online.
When taking the product apart I did have a little trouble removing the slicer insert due to vegetable build up around the perimeter, but you can run it under water to loosen up the vegetables and then you can get it off.
Combine the versatility with easy clean up, easy storage, and a very reasonable price tag and you have a product worthy of serious consideration. First, the feeder has 2 pieces that raise up and press the food down, when using thinner items leave one down and just use the other. When you are doing this I found that the vegetables spit out easier if you use the side that is closer to the end so the vegetables have less distance to travel and don't get hung up in the slicer.
I ended up finding a new slicer for a really reasonable price, close to 30 bucks and honestly, it works good enough for me. Although occasionally a vegetable would fly past the bowl and onto the counter.
The good news is that with more expense and complexity, comes more interesting and creative uses. The turning slicer will command a heftier price tag but it is a much more complex piece of equipment and deserves the price it commands.
